Sideshow: Katie Holmes to B'way?

She did it a lot in high school. But what if she'll stink at it? I mean, she's been out of practice for so long.

That'd be Katie Holmes, who is reportedly about to resume her teenage love affair with the stage. London tab the Daily Mail says Katie is in final talks to appear in a Broadway revival of Arthur Miller's post-WWII family drama, All My Sons, under the direction of Brit Simon McBurney.

Seems Katie plans to test the waters first: She's signed up to take part in a private workshop of the play in May.

All the news that's fit to sell?

Journalist David Marash, who left his post as a correspondent for ABC's Nightline for a high-profile job as an anchor on Al Jazeera English, has quit the 24-hour news channel over concerns that its news coverage was being unduly influenced by Al Jazeera's corporate headquarters in Doha, Qatar.

"To put it bluntly, the channel that's on now - while excellent . . . is not the channel that I signed up to do," Marash told the New York Times.

Marash said the channel, which was launched in November '06, had a mandate to present news from an international point of view. But, he said, the suits in Doha took more and more control over news assignments, radically reducing the autonomy once enjoyed by the station's bureaus in London, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, and Washington, where Marash was based.

Paris, Turkey

Celebutante Paris Hilton acted as a cultural ambassador this week, bringing good American cheer to Turkey as one of the judges for the Miss Turkey beauty pageant.

Ms. Hilton, who reportedly "wowed" the people of Turkey with a belly dance, told Reuters she's sick of the innuendos, half-truths and falsehoods the media disseminates in the name of democracy (in the name of gossip, anyway).

"I don't pay attention to lies because I am a good person," Paris said. "I work very hard, and I've built this empire on my own. I think this is an inspiration for a lot of girls out there."

Leyla Lydia Tugutlu won the crown as Miss Turkey 2008. Paris crowned her.

Mario Mario or Mario López?

So which Mario is Karina Smirnoff, 30, romancing? The Dancing With the Stars pro tells the New York Post that rumors she is seeing her 21-year-old dancing partner, the single-monikered R&B singer Mario, are false. People mag says Karina is still dating Husband for Hire actor Mario López, 34, a proper gent who has a surname.

Allmans nix shows

Allman Brothers drummer Butch Trucks says the band has to cancel a few concerts because Gregg Allman has to be treated for hepatitis C. Shows to be canned include a Florida appearance in April and a series of shows at Manhattan's Beacon Theatre in May. The band is due to play the Susquehanna Bank Center in Camden on Aug. 23. Fergie + Tarantino = 78

Us Weekly and USAToday.com report that the insufferably creative, brilliant and witty post-pulp auteur Quentin Tarantino (b. March 27, 1963) and the playfully luscious, good-mood singer Fergie (b. March 27, 1975 - as Stacy Ann Ferguson) shared a birthday party Thursday night at the Beatles Revolution Lounge at the Mirage Hotel & Casino in Vegas. Fergie's fiance Josh Duhamel and buddies Kid Rock, Vivica A. Fox and Daryl Hannah also attended. (Kid Rock gifted Fergie a hot dog toaster called the Hot Diggity Dog.)
