The Inquirer's South Jersey Girls Lacrosse Preseason Top 10

The Inquirer TOP 10

PRESEASON GIRLS' LACROSSE

Team   Record

With last season's final record.

1. Moorestown    22-4

The Quakers fell by one goal to Ridgewood in last year's Tournament of Champions final. They lost a strong group of seniors from that team, but as they have a habit of doing, they bring back a strong, well-rounded group. Senior midfielder Stephanie Toy, a Notre Dame recruit and one of the most highly regarded players in the country, is back to lead the perennially strong Quakers.

2. Shawnee    16-4

The Renegades must replace nine players from last season's team who graduated. The biggest question is how they will replace star goalie Alex Zaugra. Senior midfielder Nicole Troost, a UMass recruit; juniors Glade and Shannon Nugent (both Southern California); and senior defender Alexis Martin (Catholic University) will lead Shawnee.

3. Lenape    9-9

The return of midfielder Emmy Duffey from injury late last season immediately changed the Indians' fortunes, catapulting them to a South Jersey Group 4 title-game appearance. Duffey, a senior midfielder and Drexel recruit; her sister Lizzie, a senior attack and Delaware recruit; and senior attack Carly Walters, a Bryant recruit, will lead the Indians.

4. Haddonfield    18-2

Senior Maddie Kiep is one of the most well-rounded players on one of the most well-rounded teams in South Jersey. She leads an experienced team that should contend for a sectional title.

5. Washington Township    17-3

The 2011 South Jersey Group 4 champions return plenty of talent from last year, including senior midfielder Megan Tiernan, a Temple recruit, and Christina Brennan, a Dominican (N.Y.) recruit.

6. Bishop Eustace    13-5

The Crusaders fell to Haddonfield in both the division and the Group 1 playoffs last season. With plenty of experience returning, Bishop Eustace is again poised to duke it out with Haddonfield.

7. Eastern    14-8

Senior midfielder Kaitlyn Ogg, a College of New Jersey recruit, returns to lead Eastern.

8. Clearview    14-4

Clearview graduated eight starters from last season but remains one of the top programs in South Jersey.

9. Cherokee    6-8

The Chiefs return plenty of experience, including Kaycee Haverstick, a Marquette recruit, and Monmouth recruit Michelle Gonzales.

10. Rancocas Valley    9-10

The Red Devils lost some talent but have a star in junior Alex Hlesciak, a Quinnipiac recruit who netted 54 goals last year and should continue to develop this season.
