Tues. Pa. boys' roundup: Cheltenham rallies to beat Pennsbury

Cheltenham trailed host Pennsbury by 12 points entering the fourth quarter, but managed a stunning comeback and kept its hopes of reaching the PIAA state basketball tournament alive with a 67-63 District 1 Class AAAA consolation win on Tuesday night.

Jarrell Haywood, a senior guard, scored 29 points in the game and hit 14 points in the Panthers' 27-11 fourth-period rally.

Nafis Walker supported Haywood with 16 points and 6 rebounds, including 10 fourth-quarter points.

Pennsbury, which led by 39-22 at halftime and 52-40 after three quarters, had three players in double figures, led by Kieran Bolger's 25 points.

In other action, Council Rock North advanced in the consolation round with a 50-47 thriller over visiting Penn Wood.

Arron Goodman worked under the basket for 16 points, 22 rebounds and 4 blocked shots, and Rip Engel tossed in 11 points for North. Malcolm Richardson paced Penn Wood with 13 points.

Souderton will play for seventh place on Friday after pinning a 66-56 setback on host Coatesville.

Ryan Connolly saved 8 of his game-high 30 points for the fourth quarter to keep the Indians, seeded 10th in District 1, ahead down the stretch. Third-seeded Coatesville got 13 points from Andre Boggs.

District 1 Class A. Faith Christian (21-3), seeded third, handed second-seeded Girard College (23-2) its second loss of the season, 67-57, in the district semifinals at Cheltenham.

Top-seeded Church Farm (19-5) also advanced to the title game on Friday at Villanova University by eliminating Calvary Christian, 57-41, in the second game of the doubleheader at Cheltenham.
