Henderson defensive end commits to Rutgers

Myles Jackson, who played a key defensive role in two of West Chester Henderson's biggest football wins this season, has orally committed to play for Rutgers.

The 6-foot-3, 225-pound defensive end chose Rutgers over Temple, Bowling Green, Toledo and Connecticut. A three-year starter for the Warriors, Jackson helped his team to an 8-4 record this season.

According to Henderson coach Joe Walsh, Jackson was particularly effective in a 30-24 Ches-Mont League win over Downingtown East and a stunning 14-13 upset of top-seeded Ridley in the district playoffs.

"Myles really came to play in those games," Walsh said.

Jackson recorded 80 tackles, five sacks, one interception and three fumble recoveries in his senior season. Jackson was scheduled to visit Connecticut this weekend, but after going to Rutgers last weekend was convinced that North Jersey was where he wanted to go.

"My mother always said to follow your heart," Jackson said. "I felt very comfortable there. It clicked. There are some local kids there from Downingtown East and Neshaminy. I got to meet other recruits, and we agreed to keep in touch. The academics are also very strong."

Although projected to play defensive end, Jackson offers Rutgers some versatility. He played outside linebacker, running back and wideout for Walsh in addition to defensive end. He moved to linebacker last season after playing defensive end as a sophomore. He moved back this season.

Jackson shared the Ches-Mont League National Division's most outstanding defensive lineman award with Coatesville's Devyn Gallimore.

"I like getting after the ball, going after the quarterback whether it's from one hand on the ground or not. It's always better to be the hitter than to be hit," Jackson said.

Also bound for Rutgers is Downingtown East senior receiver Tyler Kroft, who this season caught 30 passes for 545 yards and six touchdowns.
