West Deptford held a two-point lead when Jimmy Owens took control of Friday night's South Jersey Group 2 football quarterfinal, scoring five straight touchdowns and driving the host Eagles to a 56-12 victory over Buena.

Owens, a 5-foot-9, 195-pound senior, gained 189 yards on 26 carries and finished with six TD runs as West Deptford (9-0) cruised.

Owens ended two touchdowns short of the South Jersey record of eight TDs in a single game set by Florence's Roger Morton in 1950.

Vaughn Scott also scored for the Eagles in a 13-carry, 130-yard rushing effort.

Donetae McKinnon scored twice for Buena (4-5) against an Eagles defense that was led by two fumble recoveries each from R. J. Falls and Mike Pacitti.

Bridgeton 28, Cinnaminson 18 - Tamar Jackson scored a pair of second-half touchdowns to give Bridgeton (6-3) a 28-6 lead and the Bulldogs held on for the South Jersey Group 2 win at Cinnaminson (6-3).

Bridgeton gained 267 yards on the ground behind Mike Cisrow's 162 yards and one touchdown on 30 carries.

Cinnaminson quarterback Michael Gallo passed for 237 yards and two touchdowns, completing 16 of 30 passes.

Fourth-quarter touchdown runs by Joe Callahan and Donte Pollack rallied Holy Spirit to a 28-21 quarterfinal win at DePaul Catholic.

The Spartans (7-2) erased deficits of 14-0 and 21-14, thanks in part to an interception that Dan Nair took back for 74 yards for a score.

State Non-Public 4

Host Paul VI (8-1) suffered its first loss of the season, 47-10, to St. Peter's Prep in a quarterfinal.

The Marauders rolled to a 21-0 lead on three TD runs by Savon Huggins.

South Jersey Group 3

Nahjee Gibson raced 95 yards for a second-quarter touchdown and Calvin Lowe plunged 1 yard in the third quarter, providing more than enough scoring for host Timber Creek to defeat Moorestown, 12-0, in a quarterfinal.

It was the second meeting between between the teams this season - and the second time the Chargers (7-2) posted a shutout. Timber Creek mauled Moorestown (5-4), 47-0, on Sept. 17.

Nonleague

Defensive end Soji Saba tackled the punter in the end zone for a safety, and Troy Sica took back the ensuing free kick 55 yards for a touchdown, as Clearview rode a dominating defense to a 23-0 win at Pinelands.

All of the scoring took place in the second quarter, which opened with a 5-yard run by Shady Johnson and closed on George Eisenhart's 17-yard strike to Andrew Bodine.

In addition to the shutout and safety, the Pioneers (3-6) recovered a pair of fumbles.

Pitman 28, Gateway 25 - Quarterback Nick Capelli threw a pair of touchdown passes, ran for a score and set up the go-ahead TD in the final minute, and made a game-ending interception while playing cornerback for the host Panthers (3-6).

Capelli (125 yards passing, 102 yards rushing) hit Dylan Colgate for a 40-yard gain on fourth-and-25 with 52 seconds left in regulation, and Vinnie Marchesani rumbled three yards on the next play.

Gateway (0-9) was in position to post its first win, thanks to the play of John Leamy - who ran for three scores and tossed a 45-yard TD pass to Nick Rutter that gave the Gators a late lead.

Triton 15, Hightstown 0 - Julian Stewart (18 carries, 106 yards) and Josh Woods (19 carries, 101 yards) shouldered the load for the host Mustangs (2-7).

Holy Cross 20, Marist 8 - Dai'shon Munger rolled up 144 yards on 15 carries, including a 50-yard scoring jaunt in the third quarter that closed out the scoring for the host Lancers (4-5).

Pennsauken 20, Millville 6 - Talir Satterfield-Rowe ran for a pair of touchdowns and Byron Rozier raced 56 yards with an interception for another score, allowing the Indians (5-4) to pull away at Millville (4-5).

New Egypt 13, South Hunterdon 6 - Jamel Smith plunged one yard to open the scoring and went on to gain 117 yards on 23 carries, as the host Warriors (2-7) snapped a five-game losing streak.

Manchester Township 20, Highland 13 - Sean Daniels had touchdown runs of 70 and 35 yards in the narrow loss for the host Tartans (5-5).

Keansburg 20, Burlington City 0 - The host Blue Devils (5-4), who had averaged more than 23 points per game over their last five games, were shut out for the first time this season.
