Wed. Pa. roundup: Phelps hoops team falls to 2-1
Ocean Academy (N.J.) placed four players in double figures, led by Markin Charles' 21 points, in a 101-97 nonleague boys' basketball win at Phelps on Wednesday.
It was the first loss of the young season for Phelps (2-1), which got 13 points and 14 rebounds from 6-foot-9 forward Tyree Harris, a Prep Charter product.
Another post-grad student, Jahmad Saleem, added 22 points and 11 assists. Saleem is a 6-1 point guard from Cross Creek High in Augusta, Ga. Terrence Bailey, a 6-1 guard from Trenton (N.J.), added 23 points and 12 rebounds.
Phelps hosts Rise Academy on Monday.
Field hockey
Hill School sent the home fans away happy for the final time of this field hockey season, beating visiting Baldwin, 4-0, in a nonleague game on Senior Day.
Paige Haley, a junior, had three goals, and Heather Morris, a freshman, added the other goal.
Senior Greta Witter played a spectacular game on defense for the Blues (13-1), who travel to Lawrenceville Prep (N.J.) on Saturday.
In another nonleague game, Becca Hetrick scored twice for host Peddie School (N.J.) in a 2-1 win over Germantown Academy. Lily Cramer's goal near the end of the first half cut the margin in half, but the Patriots (12-9-1) could get no closer.
