The Hurricanes had to sweat it for a while, as the two teams went into the second half scoreless, but Caroline Troncelliti scored a pair of goals and Marie Elena Bolles added a goal and two assists. Sam Mueller also scored for the Hurricanes.

Villa Maria swept the three previous games with Sacred Heart by 5-0, 3-1, and 3-0 scores.

Goalie Anna Zarkoski had four saves for the shutout, helped by some fine work in front of the goal by midfielder Molly Murphy.

District 1 Class AAA. At Wissahickon, Central Bucks South's Maddy Harding scored a goal that helped her team beat Owen J. Roberts, 3-0, in the championship game.

District 12 Class AAA. In the final at Germantown, Archbishop Prendergast overwhelmed Northeast, 8-0. The Pandas, who got three goals from Brooke Stretch, had the game well in hand by halftime, leading, 5-0.

The Pandas also got a pair of goals from both Lexi Doran and Kerry Farrell and a single goal by Jessica Summers.

Boys' Soccer

Central Bucks East needed second-half goals from Miguel Diaz and Ben Smith to win at Souderton, 2-0, in the District 1 Class AAA third-place game.

Girls' Soccer

Fifth-seeded Downingtown East rode an upset of Downingtown West into the finals of the District 1 Class AAA tournament and then made the most of the opportunity, using two goals from Katy Tronel to beat fifth-seeded Villa Joseph Marie, 4-0, at West Chester East in the title game.

Downingtown West took third with a 3-0 win over West Chester Henderson at West Chester East.

Girls' Tennis

Greater Latrobe's Joelle Kissell needed three sets to beat Strath Haven's Tessa Lyons in the PIAA State Class AAA singles tennis championship match at the Hershey Racquet Club.

Kissell, the District 7 champion, dropped the first set, 4-6, then roared back to win the next two, 6-2, 6-3.

In Class AAA doubles, Wissahickon's team of Rachel Fein and Katie Kennedy finished third by beating Manheim Township's Lauren Stauffer and Caroline Berry, 6-1, 6-4.

Lower Moreland's Madison Cohen clinched third place by beating District 1 rival Jen Shulkin of Harriton, 4-6, 7-6 (7-3), 6-1.

Girls' Volleyball

Senior Lauren Schmickle had 56 assists to lead Hatboro-Horsham to a 25-15, 24-26, 24-26, 25-8, 25-10 win over St. Basil in the District 1 Class AAA third-place match at Wissahickon.

Teammate Julie Harvey had 19 kills and six solo blocks for the Hatters.

Top-seeded Bishop Shanahan won the first-place match in four games, 25-16, 16-25, 25-19, 25-18, over Council Rock North, also at Wissahickon. Sarah Kiely had 14 kills and Rachel Friedman had 11 kills for the Indians (15-3).

Boys' Water Polo

In the Eastern Prep championships at Lawrenceville (N.J.) Penn Charter beat Haverford School, 15-6, in a quarterfinal behind Anthony Lordi's six goals, three assists and five steals. The Quakers' Mac Ferrick had 20 saves and five steals in goal. Penn Charter was scheduled to play Loyola (Md.) in Sunday morning's 10 a.m. semifinal.
