Tues. S. Jersey roundup: West Deptford's Heininger ties school hockey record

Brooke Heininger had the best of both worlds Tuesday.

The West Deptford junior goalie tied a school record for shutouts in a season and helped the Eagles beat visiting Woodstown, 3-0, in a South Jersey Group 2 quarterfinal in field hockey.

Heininger stopped the only shot she faced in her 14th shutout this season, equaling the 14 shutouts posted by Heather Haigh in 1995.

Offensively, West Deptford (18-1) got two goals from Jamie Robinson and a goal from Lauren Boegly. Heather Boyer stopped 21 shots for the Wolverines.

Heininger will try to break the record in a semifinal against Haddonfield at 2 p.m. Friday.

In other quarterfinals:

Meghan McLaughlin and Michelle Sabatini each scored twice to lead Haddonfield past visiting Lower Cape May, 6-0. Beth Ehrhardt and Alex Marshall added goals, and Aurora Connor stopped the only shot she faced for the Bulldogs. Rebecca Holden turned aside 17 shots for the Tigers.

Delsea crammed four goals into the first half and eased past visiting Buena, 5-0. Jessie Coffin, Brittany Carney, Brooke Phillips, and Ashli Nieves scored in the first half, and Rachel Crescitelli added a second-half goal. Kelsey DiBen stopped four shots for the Crusaders and Christina Bashenko turned aside 16 shots for the Chiefs.

Devon Biglin struck for two goals and three assists for Holy Spirit in a 9-3 romp over visiting Barnagat. Jessica Giaccone added a pair of goals, while teammates Evanne Ellenberg, Ali Frankel, Katie Hehre, Joanna Persiano, and Dana Reimers contributed single goals. Amber D'Ambrosio picked up the win in goal with four saves.

The Spartans will host Delsea in a semifinal at 2 p.m. Friday.

Central Jersey Group 2. Shanna O'Donnell and Krystal Valenti scored off scrambles in front of the cage and helped Collingswood beat visiting Manasquan, 3-1, in a quarterfinal playoff game. The Panthers also got a goal from Samantha Gregg and three saves from Allison Hawko. Collingswood will meet Rumson-Fair Haven in a semifinal Friday at a time to be determined.

In other quarterfinals:

Heather Porrini scored for Cinnaminson with 17 minutes left in the first half and goalie Maggie Zelinka held off visiting Camden Catholic for a 1-0 victory. Porrini scored off a corner by Jaima Dell-Priscoli. Zelinka stopped 11 shots to earn her 12th shutout of the season for the Pirates.

Elise DiDonato notched a hat trick and paced Bishop Eustace to a 7-0 win over visiting Bordentown. Allie Canal, Sam Livecchi, Moira Penza, and Kelly Quinn also scored for the Crusaders, who got five saves from Megan Comunale. Bishop Eustace will host Cinnaminson in a semifinal at 2 p.m. Friday

Delran got a goal from Rileigh Ruff, but it wasn't enough as Rumson-Fair Haven posted a 4-1 victory. Chelsea Fitzgerald stopped 17 shots for the Crusaders.

Colonial. Najahla Simmons picked up a pair of goals and assisted on another to lead Paulsboro to a 4-1 win over visiting Sterling. Simmons scored both goals in the second half and assisted on Arlexis Gaines' goal in the first. Brittany Epifano also scored in the first half, and Lavon Childress stopped 12 shots for the Red Raiders.

Soccer

Brittany Ratcliffe came through with two goals and an assist and led Paul VI past visiting Timber Creek, 6-0, in the Olympic Conference.
