Mon. N.J. Roundup: Lindenwold nips Audubon in football
Leon Jones found Billy Jones in the left corner of the end zone for a decisive two-point conversion with less than two minutes left as Lindenwold rallied to beat visiting Audubon, 14-12, yesterday in Colonial Conference football.
Audubon (1-4 overall, 0-3 division) took a 12-0 lead into the final period on a pair of TD passes from Brandon Hill to Chris Borgese.
The Lions (2-3, 2-2), aided by a solid defensive effort by linebacker Justin Williams and end Bronson Keaveny, came back in the final period.
Jones hit Dave Torres with a short TD pass with 7 minutes to go, and Lindenwold tied the game on Jones' scoring toss to Steven Wilford with 1:16 left, setting up the game-winning conversion.
Buena 6, Penns Grove 0 - Buena (3-2) handed visiting Penns Grove (4-1) its first loss, with the Chiefs' defense notching its first shutout and Donetae McKinnon scoring a first-quarter touchdown in the nonleague contest.
Boys' Soccer
Mitch Grotti became Millville's all-time leading scorer with two goals in the Thunderbolts' 2-1 Cape-Atlantic League win over visiting Egg Harbor Township. Grotti's first score broke the record of 65 career goals set by Rob Moore in 1999, and he later added his 67th goal as the game-winner, assisted by Alex Gauntt.
Olympic. Host Winslow Township stunned seventh-ranked Cherokee, 2-1, as Riquan King scored his second goal of the game on a penalty kick with 20 minutes left.
Bishop Eustace spotted host Shawnee a 1-0 lead before rallying to win, 2-1, in double overtime. Eric Montinard netted the game-winner in the 97th minute.
Trevor Sharpe's three-goal performance gave him 24 this fall, punctuating Cherry Hill West's 3-0 triumph over visiting Washington Township.
Colonial. Haddon Township used Chris Murphy's penalty kick with 10 minutes left to beat host Haddonfield, 2-1.
John Hagerty scored on a header off a cross from Brian Whitman in the second overtime period as Haddon Heights nudged host Audubon, 1-0.
Burlington County. Reserve goalie Nick Marini made two saves in posting his second shutout, 3-0, at Northern Burlington and helping the Quakers (8-8) reach the .500 mark.
Burak Ozdemir scored on a deflection off a free kick three minutes before halftime, making Burlington City a 1-0 winner over visiting Florence.
Rancocas Valley turned single goals by Kevin Cocuz, Alec Golini and Luca May into a 3-2 success at Holy Cross.
GIRLS ROUNDUP
Katie Ferguson scored two goals, including the game-winner midway through the second overtime period, as Haddonfield handed host Haddon Township its first girls' soccer loss of the season, 2-1, yesterday.
Haddonfield goalie Tina Davis allowed a goal for the first time since Sept. 23 as Laura Dochney scored for the Hawks (14-1-1), but the Bulldogs (13-1-1) bounced back in the Colonial Conference game.
Ferguson got behind the defense for the game-winner, beating Haddon Township goalie Katie Getzinger (13 saves), who has 13 shutouts this season.
S.J. Coaches Tournament. Alicia Elwell poked in a goal in the final minute of the first half, and Washington Township's defense thwarted visiting Rancocas Valley to grab a 1-0 first-round win.
Katie Gill assisted on Elwell's goal, scored with 40 seconds left before intermission. Minutemaids goalie Lauren Cicatiello made eight saves in her team's sixth shutout of the season.
Williamstown ousted visiting Mainland, 3-0, with Briana Molino's goal and two assists, goals by Jessica Martinez and Danielle Spinuzza, and seven saves by goalie Ashley Winkelspecht.
Colonial. A pair of freshmen teamed up for the final score as Taylor Nichols assisted Jayne Pinsky's goal with seven minutes left, sealing Haddon Heights' 2-0 win over visiting Audubon. Dana McCormick had Heights' first goal, and goalie Joelle Orlando made five saves.
Lindsey Hatton and Andrea DiCarlo scored goals in the first eight minutes of the second half, boosting Woodbury past visiting Sterling, 2-1.
Olympic. Katie O'Keefe assisted on goals by Melissa Giunta and Mary MacDonald, and Seneca goalie Brittany Snow turned aside all five shots she saw for a 2-0 win over visiting Triton.
Burlington County. Taylor Lewis knocked in two goals, and Willingboro goalie Janae Tucker made just one save en route to a 2-0 shutout of visiting Trenton Catholic.
Tri-County. Unbeaten Gloucester Catholic (12-0-1) breezed past visiting Penns Grove, 6-0, behind two goals each from Korrie Harkins and Amanda Schuhl, Chelsea Duffy's one goal and two assists, and a goal by Kelly Kane.
Nonleague. Cherry Hill East goalie Lauren Minkoff made nine saves and Ocean City's Julie Burnell stopped eight shots in a scoreless tie at Ocean City.
Field Hockey
Glassboro got a penalty corner with the game tied and no time left on the clock, and Jessica Snyder's corner turned into a goal by Alexis Mazzeo, bringing a dramatic end to Glassboro's 2-1 Tri-County Conference win over visiting Gloucester Catholic.
Olympic. First-half goals by Emily Arnot and Nicole Troost off penalty corners were enough to make Shawnee a 2-1 winner at Bishop Eustace.
Courtney Chels' second goal of the game was scored in overtime, ending Triton's 3-2 thriller at Seneca.
Eastern got goals from six players, including two each by Mariel Papa and Gianna Perrone, during an 8-0 win at Paul VI.
Colonial. Audubon turned goals by Megan Dadds, Amanda Hauske, and Katie Nuhn into a 3-1 win over visiting Haddon Heights.
Cape-Atlantic. Morgan Costa's four-goal performance fueled Hammonton's 5-1 halftime lead, and the host Blue Devils held off Mainland for a 7-5 win. Mainland's Jen Eisenberg had three goals.
Burlington County. Burlington Township raced to a 5-1 victory over visiting Palmyra with the help of Keisha Mullings' two goals.
