Kings select Tyreke Evans with fourth overall pick in NBA Draft
NEW YORK – Tyreke Evans is a King.
The Sacramento Kings selected Memphis' 6-foot-5 combo guard with the No. 4 pick in tonight's NBA draft at Madison Square Garden. Last season - his only at Memphis - the Chester native averaged 17.1 points, 5.4 rebounds, 3.8 assists and 2.8 steals.
Around Southeastern Pennsylvania, the 19-year-old is known for his storied high school career.
A varsity starter at American Christian since the seventh grade, he scored more than 3,300 career points. He averaged 29 points, eight rebounds, six assists and 4.3 steals as a senior to be named The Inquirer's 2008 Southeastern Pennsylvania boys' basketball player of the year.
The standout took his high-scoring act to the 2008 McDonald's All American game in Milwaukee.
His crossover move against Jrue Holiday in that game was selected as a top 10 play of the day for March 27, 2008 on ESPN's SportsCenter. That was just one highlight, as the Chester native finished with a team-high 21 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists to lead the East past the West, 107-102. He was named the game's most valuable player.
