Top QB recruit Savage picks Rutgers

Cardinal O'Hara junior Tom Savage will verbally commit to Rutgers tomorrow at a news conference at his school, sources said today.

Savage, a 6-foot-4, 224-pound quarterback, will select the Scarlet Knights over scholarship offers from Tennessee, Miami, Georgia, Louisville and Pittsburgh.

Savage is scheduled to attend Saturday's Scarlet Knights' spring football game at Rutgers Stadium.

According to camp organizers, he is also expected to attend the Football University Camp at Rutgers from May 3-5. Several days later, Savage will compete in the BigTime Showcase event at Rutgers.

And Rutgers coach Greg Schiano came to a Cardinal O'Hara game in a helicopter this past season.

In Savage, Schiano will get one of the nation's top prospects. The strong armed signal-caller, who played in only seven games last season because of a broken bone in his foot, is ranked 24th nationally in the Class of 2009 by Rivals.com. Savage was named the most valuable player at January's U.S. Army All-American Combine in San Antonio.

He completed 190 of 426 passes for 2,547 yards and 20 touchdowns passes for his career.

Rutgers fans will be able to see him play on Aug. 30 when Cardinal O'Hara faces Catholic League rival Archbishop Carroll at Carey Stadium in Ocean City.

Savage can't sign a binding national letter of intent until February, 2009.
