2 Pottsgrove High students killed in crash

A crash last night in Chester County involving an SUV packed with teenagers and a car claimed the lives of two Pottsgrove High School students and injured five other people.

Killed in the accident were SUV passengers Andrew Case, 17, of Pottstown, and Mike Cantamaglia, 16, from Barto, according to police in East Coventry Township, where the accident occurred.

Two "rest in peace" Facebook pages have already been created in their names.

The crash injured three other students at the Montgomery County school, another teen and a woman.

Counselors will be available today for students or other people at the Montgomery County school, which was closed for scheduled parent-teacher conferences.

The accident happened about 8:45 last night on New Schuylkill Road (Route 724) near Sanatoga Road, when a 2005 Honda SUV, heading westbound with six teens, lost control, crossed the eastbound lane, went up an embankment, rolled over and then struck a 1998 Nissan sedan in the eastbound lane, according to police.

Case and Cantamaglia were pronounced dead at the scene.

The Nissan's driver, Latasha Jones, 22, of Pottstown, was taken to Reading Hospital for treatment.

Also transported to the hospital were Dylan Kunrath, 17, and Kyle Hilegas, 15, both of Pottstown; and Garrett Sterner, 16, of Telford.

The identity of the injured SUV driver was being withheld by police because of his age.
