Bryn Athyn woman struck, killed

A 65-year-old Bryn Athyn woman died after she was struck by a passing van in a Huntingdon Pike crosswalk yesterday afternoon, police said today.

Melinda Nemitz was pronounced dead at the scene of the 4 p.m. collision, Bryn Athyn Police Chief Glenn Coffin said. The driver, a 71-year-old man, stopped after the incident and was questioned by police. No charges have been filed and alcohol is not suspected as a factor, though the investigation is ongoing.

Coffin said that more witnesses remain to be interviewed, and that an autopsy and reconstruction of the accident have not been completed. Anyone with information is asked to call Bryn Athyn police at 215-947-0118.
