Specter says Senate will modify health care bill

Sen. Arlen Specter (D-Pa.) today said that the Senate would take a hard look at health care legislation to ensure it will not add to the budget deficit.

Specter disagreed with Sen. Lindsey Graham's (R-S.C.) who on Sunday said the House version of the health care legislation was "dead on arrival to the Senate."

Specter said he expected that the Senate will review the legislation and make needed "modifications." He did not specify any of those changes. Specter said he is especially concerned that the bill not contribute to the federal deficit.

Specter also reiterated his support for a public option on health care, which he disclosed at a town-hall meeting at Drexel University in August.

A public option, Specter said today "will not mean that private insurance companies are gone."

Specter also said that he will push to criminalize Medicare and Medicaid fraud so offenders receive jail sentences.

Specter's comments came to reporters following a hearing on veteran's issues at the National Constitution Center.

If the House bill passes we will see our Pennsylvania taxes go up significantly because 250,000 people will be added to the state's Medicaid program. The cost of private insurance will go up significantly for most Pennsylvanians to levels you see in New York and Massachusetts because of all the mandates. The bill will kill jobs and wages because of the onerous employer mandates requiring employers not to cover just the employee premium but also for the employees family. So if your lucky enough to still have a job not only will you not get a raise but a likely pay cut! But Senator Benedict Arlen Specter doesn't care about this as long as there is no malpractice tort reform to mess with his son's business. In case you didn't know his son is head of one of the biggest ambulance chasing law firms in the region. Who cares if tort reform could cut 20% from the cost of health care Specters son has to rake in millions. Can't wait to vote this guy out with the other liberal Democrats who voted for the bill...such as Liberal Patrick Murphy who claims to be a fiscally conservative Blue Dog yet votes with Nancy Pelosi on every major legislation.
