Police seize 600 marijuana plants in N. Phila. rowhouse

Philadelphia police today shut down what they described as an elaborate marijuana farm operating inside a North Philadelphia rowhouse.

Officers responded to a 911 call reporting "a strong odor of weed" on the 3000 block of North 7th Street and found the front windows of the dwelling "completely masked and the strong scent of marijuana," said Capt. Debra Frazier, of the narcotics unit.

Inside, police discovered a .38 caliber handgun and 600 plants, "from seedlings to plants well over 6-feet-tall," Frazier said. "There was no furniture, no sources of entertainment, nothing but marijuana plants" growing hydroponically under large lights. Frazier estimated the seized pot had a street value of $5 million. Police have made no arrests, she said, but have identified a person of interest "that we will be speaking with shortly," she said.

I'm suddenly remembering the time I found a website on growing pot when I was trying to look up how to grow Timothy grass indoors for my pet rabbit. Wonder if it's the same person? By the way, you guys (media in general, not just you) should really figure out what "person of interest" means. Is that a stage before suspect? Someone who is just connected with it somehow? Informant?

Shocked the neighbors just didn't figure it was about the time the neighborhood low lives woke up to head to the corners to "put in work."

The sad part about this is that once they find this guy he probably is going to either do time inside jail or inside on house arrest. One year from now when PA House Bill 1393 gets enacted by the State, he could have been an entrepreneur growing cannabis for medical purposes.

@gpark1018. That's a good call. Medicinal maryjane is typically pretty heady stuff... so the inflated estimate could be attributed to higher quality setup/strain, much like you would see in a professional growhouse.
