Firefighter injured responding to call in S. Phila.

A 40-year-old Philadelphia firefighter was injured when he fell out of a fire truck responding to a call this evening, authorities said.

The accident occurred around 6:30 p.m. at 24th Street and Snyder Avenue in South Philadelphia, authorities said. The firefighter, who was not named, was transported to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania with unspecified injuries. He was reported in stable condition.

There was no immediate explanation for how he fell out of the apparatus.

Always a reminder that this is a very dangerous profession. My dad was with Engine 36 in Holmesburg and a family friend, Uriah Baxter, was killed responding to a false alarm. Best wishes for a speedy and full recovery.
