Cop hurt during traffic stop
Police are looking for the driver of a stolen red Mercedez-Benz convertible that sped off during a traffic stop in Germantown early today, slightly injuring a police officer.
The 39th District officer's backup fired two shots at the car. but it did not stop.
The injured officer, who was knocked to the ground, was treated at Albert Einstein Medical Center.
Investigators know who they are looking for.
Police said the officer had just been alerted by the car's owner that it had been stolen about 12:45 a.m. by an ex-employee when the vehicle, with two men and a woman inside, passed the officer's patrol car.
He turned around and stopped the car, obtaining the driver's license, police said.
Lt. Frank Vanore said the officer determined the driver was wanted on a warrant and when he returned to the car to detain him, the car sped off, dragging the officer for a short distance and knocking him to the ground.
Police later found the car 1.5 miles away on the unit block of Rittenhouse Street in Germantown.
