Burlco teacher charged with student sexual assault

Bordentown Regional High School's former band director has been suspended from his teaching post after being charged with sexually assaulting a student over eight months.

The Burlington County Prosecutor's Office yesterday charged Francisco J. Planas-Borgstrom, 32, of Bordentown, with a second-degree count of sexual assault related to encounters that occurred between September 2008 and April 2009.

The school district suspended him pending the outcome of the charge. Planas-Borgstrom was in the process of posting $75,000 bail late yesterday afternoon, assistant county prosecutor Ray Milavsky said.

Authorities did not release the name, age, or gender of the alleged victim.

Planas-Borgstrom has been a teacher for at least a decade and served as marching band director at Bordentown Regional for at least seven years, according to his autobiography on the school district Web site.

His classes at the high school included advanced concert band, jazz ensemble, and music theory. Planas-Borgstrom was replaced as marching band director in August, according to district documents.

If convicted, he faces a maximum sentence of 10 years in state prison, Milavsky said.
