Man slain in W. Phila., earlier victim named

An early morning shooting in West Philadelphia left one man dead, according to police.

Police also identified a man who died early yesterday morning after being shot in South Philadelphia.

At 1:41 this morning, police went to the 5600 block of Arch Street and found a man in his late 20s or early 30s who had been shot once in the buttocks.

The man, whose name was not released this morning, was pronounced dead at 2:20 a.m. at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania.

On Sunday, just before midnight, a man with gunshot wounds to stomach, leg and buttocks was found in the 1700 block of Chadwick Street. He was pronounced dead at 1:25 a.m. at HUP.

He was Horace Cunningham, 25, of the 3000 block of North 35th Street.

In a third case of homicide, police have not yet released the name of a 72-year-old man found dead Saturday afternoon in his home in the 4100 block of West Girard in Parkside.

The body showed signs of blunt-force trauma and strangulation, police said.

The name was being withheld as police continued to try to locate the victim's family.
