Auto tags operator charged in Delco
The owner of an auto tag shop in Delaware County has been charged with failing to submit proper paperwork and more than $78,000 to PENNDOT in connection with 335 customer transactions involving motor vehicle registrations, the district attorney's office announced today.
Rachel Boyson, 33, of Bellmawr, N.J., owner of Springfield Auto Tags at 1031 E. Woodland Ave., has been charged with multiple counts of theft, receiving stolen property, deceptive business practices and violations of the motor vehicle codes, according to court papers.
Boyson allegedly was operating a Ponzi scheme to support a cocaine habit, according to court documents.
This was the second time in six months that an auto tags operator in Delaware County was arrested.
In March, Rose Prince, 80, owner of Eagle Auto Tags in Havertown, ran a similar fraudulent scheme. She pleaded guilty in August to theft and was sentenced to five years' probation and ordered not to gamble while under court supervision.
Prince paid more than $40,000 in restitution. She had to surrender her dealership and notary licenses.
