Fugitive rape suspect arrested in Nevada

A man wanted for stalking a 19-year-old woman from a suburban Walmart to her home and then raping her has beeen arrested following a traffic stop in Nevada, officials said this morning.

Surveillance pictures of Seth Griffith, 31, of the 500 block of Haws Avenue, Norristown, leaving the Walmart in West Norriton Township were widely circulated in the days after the July 27 attack and a warrant for his arrest was reported to the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) computer.

He is charged in the warrant with following the woman from the store and sexually assaulting her in her home in the Audubon section of Lower Providence Township.

Montgomery County District Attorney Risa Vetri Ferman's office says Griffith was taken into custody in Nevada when an officer stopped a car and discovered the plates had been stolen in Alabama and did not belong to the car.

A check of the NCIC system also revealed that Griffith was wanted in Pennsylvania.

It was later determined that the car Griffith was driving had been stolen in Georgia, officials said.

Griffith is being held at the Mineral County Jail in Nevada pending extradition.
