N.J. Turnpike ramp in Runnemede closed

The ramp to the northbound New Jersey Turnpike from the Black Horse Pike in Runnemede re-opened this afternoon following a truck accident this morning, a New Jersey State Police spokesman said.

The tractor trailer overturned, spilling 5,000 gallons of liquid asphalt across the ramps to and from the northbound highway. The driver of the truck, Hassan Daghestani, 37 from Fair Lawn, N.J., was taken to an area hospital with minor injuries, the spokesman said.

He was driving for Mt. Hope Trucking Co. of Wharton, Morris County, police said.

Hazardous material teams from Cherry Hill and Gloucester City are still working with the Runnemede Fire Department on cleanup of the area. Police said the accident is still being investigated.    -Kia Gregory
