Woman, 68, found dead in Bucks home
An elderly woman was found dead in her Bucks County home early this morning.
New Britain Borough Police were called to 501 Ferris Lane shortly after 2 a.m. when the body of the 68-year-old woman was discovered by a close friend, authorities said.
The friend arrived at the locked apartment to check on the woman, who last spoke with family members yesterday about 10:30 a.m.
Police discovered there had been a fire inside the apartment and believe the woman died of smoke inhalation. There were no signs of foul play.
Neighbors reported a faint odor of smoke during the day that didn't linger long. The smoke detector inside the home was not working.
The incident remains under investigation by the Bucks County Fire Marshal, the Pennsylvania State Police Fire Marshal and the Bucks County coroner's office.
