Hill International announced today that it has received contracts for an amusement park in Vietnam and an enhanced rail transportation system in the United States.

The Marlton-based project management firm said a three-year contract worth about $16.9 million will have it managing construction of a 1,700-acre amusement park in southern Vietnam. The $600 million Happyland Theme Park and KT Entertainment City is projected to open in 2014.

The second project has Hill in a joint venture with Kansas City, Mo.-based transportation consultant TranSystems Corp. in a two-year contract from CSX Transportation Inc. to enhance freight transportation between Mid-Atlantic ports and Midwestern markets.

The contract, worth about $11.4 million, is for 43 projects along a primary section - Pennsylvania, Maryland, West Virginia and Ohio - of the National Gateway, an $842 million, multi-state, public-private initiative to beef up the nation's freight rail system.

Improvements under the contract include raising the height bridges and increasing tunnel clearances, as well as putting up new terminals that will allow the use of double-stacked trains. A new terminal in Pittsburgh is on the project list, Hill said. (Read more about National Gateway here.)

Hill shares picked up 5 cents to trade at $6.39 early this afternoon.    - Roslyn Rudolph
