BioNanomatrix, Inc., a Philadelphia developer of systems for biomedical research, molecular diagnostics and personalized medicine that are based on nanotechnology, today said it had received a $2 million follow-up grant from the National Institutes of Health.

The grant will support further development of BioNanomatrix's whole genome imaging and analysis platform. It follows the company's completion of work under an earlier grant to develop technology that allows researchers to image and analyze long, intact strands of DNA at the single-molecule level.

Nanotechnology is a scientific field that creates new materials as small as a nanometer, or about 100,000 times smaller than the width of a human hair.    - Miriam Hill
