Food Bank of S.J. names new chief executive
Valerie Brown Traore has been named chief executive officer of the Food Bank of South Jersey.
Previously, she had been executive director of the Pennsauken-based hunger-relief organization.
The Food Bank of South Jersey, a 501(C)(3) nonprofit hunger-relief organization founded in 1985, has provided nearly 70 million pounds of food - the equivalent of 56 million meals - to thousands of people in Burlington, Camden, Gloucester, and Salem Counties.
Traore holds a bachelor of science degree in management from Coppin State University, and has more than 20 years' experience in nonprofit management.
In her previous job, with a food-rescue organization in New York, she created a mobile market, which increased the consumption of fresh fruits and vegetables in economically disadvantaged communities.
She also has worked with America's Second Harvest, the nation's largest domestic hunger relief organization.
