PennDot grants available for rail, aviation

PennDot is accepting grant applications for its Rail Transportation Assistance and Aviation Transportation Assistance programs. The programs's grants, authorized by the Pennsylvania General Assembly and approved by Gov. Rendell, could provide up to $40 million in funding to improve rail and aviation facilities throughout the state.

Rendell, could provide up to $40 million in funding to improve rail and aviation facilities throughout the state.

"Rail freight and aviation are important staples of the state's economy," said PennDot Secretary Allen D. Bichler. "These funds are an investment in industries that employ thousands of Pennsylvanians as well as provide billions of dollars in revenue."

PennDot said railroad companies, transportation organizations, municipalities, municipal authorities and users of rail freight infrastructure with a line item on an active capital budget act can apply through PennDot's dotgrants system at http://www.dot34.state.pa.us/egrants/. Any public airport can apply online at http://penndot.airplanonline.com.
