PNC earnings up 19% in Q2

PNC Financial Services Group Inc. today reported that net income for the second quarter rose 19 percent over the comparable quarter of 2007.

The Pittsburgh-based banking company reported net income of $505 million, or $1.45 per share, for the quarter just ended; second-quarter 2007 net income was $423 million, or $1.22 per share.

The second-quarter compared with net income of $377 million, or $1.09 per share, for the first quarter of 2008.

For the first six months of 2008, the company earned net income of $882 million, or $2.54 per share, compared with net income of $882 million, or $2.67 per share, for last year's comparable period.
