north catholic
Qwho's going to win the catholic league?
Anonymous, greenland, PA 02/23/08
AArchbishop Ryan has a great player in Andrew Rogers. However, North Catholic is just too deep and athletic. I think the Falcons will win this one.

Norristown/Chester
Qno matter what happens on Sunday win or lose, each team will be on a different side of the bracket in state playoffs. do you think that they will meet at state college for the chip? also is this the best district one AAAA chip in a while? if not whose game in the past had more hype?
Anonymous, PA 02/23/08
A
These two teams could meet up again at Penn State. But it's not a slam dunk. The loser of this game will have to first beat a very, very good Reading team in the west bracket. Reading, the District 3 champion, is 30-0. In regards to the District 1 Class AAAA championship, it does have a lot of hype. We will find out around 5:50 p.m. if the game deserves all the hoopla.
The best district final I witnessed was Chester vs. Lower Merion two seasons ago. Karon Burton's three-pointer at the buzzer gave Chester a 83-80 victory. That game had a lot of hype and delivered.

District 1 vs District 12
QWhy does district 1 get 6 teams into the 4A portion of the state playoffs & district 12(Public league) gets only 4 team. District 12 has more members than District 1 but district 1 gets more teams in than D12, and next year D12 gets even bigger but the number of teams that gets into the state playoffs next year is less. The pub gets 2 & 2 goes to the catholic league, why did Coleman sell the pub out like that?

ADistrict 1 advances mores teams to the state tournament, because it is a larger district.

District 1A players
QI think many young district 1A players have been overlooked because of the size of the conference. Players like:Freshman guard John Johnson (Girard College), Sophomore guard Maurice Griffin (philmont christian), Sophomore forward Kyle Arroyo (Calvary Christian)etc. I believe these players would have good careers in the higher leagues. What are your thoughts?
Anonymous, Philadelphia, PA 02/22/08
AI agree. All three of the players you mentioned are very, very solid players. Johnson has a great chance to become a major Division I college prospect.

Why doesn't Antonio Monroe get an respect
QAntonio Monroe from comm tech has been having a good season he is second on the team in scoring and leads the team in assist and steals u would think the 2nd best player on a highly rated comm tech team would get some love he doesn't he has been playing with the flu against Franklin Learning Center and mansion he still played solid and now they are about to be the Public League champs.

I think Antonio Monroe gets respect. At least, I respect his game and what he means to Communications Tech. His play in the upcoming Public League championship game could determine if the Phoenix win the title or not.

Girls District 1 AAAA
QWhich teams from District 1 girls do you think will have the best shot at making noise in the state tournament?
Anonymous, Phila, PA 02/21/08
AI would have to say Downingtown East and Methacton have the best chances.

NORRISTOWN EAGLES
QThey are a great team, I know because I played against them twice this year and they are very up tempo, and I seen you at William Tennent yesterday night at the game vs. Pennsbury. Going into that game who did you think was going to come out with the win? And do you think Norristown can compete with the 6th best team in the Nation, playing Chester High?? I have to say Norristown is great and they've been doubted all year but when the fans at the game were chanting "We want Chester" I think they were making a mistake in saying that because I think Chester is playing at a higher level, but I could be proven wrong
Anonymous, Warminster, PA 02/21/08
ABased on strength of schedule, I thought Pennsbury would pull out the victory. Norristown looked very good and made a statement by beating Pennsbury. However, Chester will be very, very hard to beat. The Clippers are on a higher level than any other team in the district.

Southern(Respect)
QWhy doesn't any of the players on Southern get any respect. The only time anything is written about them is when they lose. Southern has three Sophomores & a junior (Deshon Minnis, Jamir Hanner,Haywood Henderson & Furnell Doster )that are just as good or better than some of the other guys in the city. Hanner is much better than Daniel Stewart at Neumann, but these kids get no respect. Why is that?
RamsFan33, Philadelphia, PA 02/09/08
A
I think you need to read our paper more often. If so, you would realize that your observation is way off. We wrote an article about Jamir Hanner and the entire Southern team on Jan. 29. Hanner scored the game-winning basket in a great game against Franklin Learning Center. Southern was also ranked in Southeastern Pennsylvania by The Inquirer before losing to Bartram.

wrestling article pinned the Episcopal Academy player, why?
QDear Keith,
Please help me to understand the article below posted in today's newspaper.
I do not understand why out of 14 to 16 players, Mike Picciani was singled out and was represented as a lost to the Episcopal Academy team, by one point. Of course the entire match represented pins, forfeits, wins and loses by all of the players.
I am sure that every player in every high school sport, in the Philadelphia region, played their hearts to the fullest yesterday. Please let me know who wrote the article as well as an explanation to what I may be missing.
Also, please note that Mike Picciani's weight class is 171 lbs and that he was bumped up to the 189 lb weight class for this particular match.
Thank you for your time.
Regards,

The writer of the brief wasn’t trying to single out Mike Picciani. The details of the wrestling match were called into the paper. The writer only wrote the information that was provided.
