underrated
QWhy is Strawberry Mansion's Eddie Frazier so underrated? Do you know of any college interest in Frazier? What do you think of him?
dun, Philadelphia, PA 03/08/08
A
Eddie Frazier is unheralded. A lot of that has to do with playing with Division I prospects in 6-foot-4 guard Wayne Davis and 6-8 center Devon White.
Davis, a
Morehead
State University signee, is the team’s leading scorer and arguably the region's best long-range shooter. White is a beast in the low post and is attracting attention from Nebraska, Rider,
Morehead
State and St. Bonaventure.
While those two guys grab the headlines, Frazier is the key to the team’s success. When he’s on his game, the Knights are unbeatable. The 6-4 senior swingman, who averages a double-double, is attracting a lot of attention from Division III programs
Widener and
Neumann. I think he would be a steal for a Division II program.

Holy Ghost
QWhat do you think about tonight's Holy Ghost vs. Communications Tech game? Many people say that HGP can stick with them if they play smart ball because Comm Tech will get rattled.
HOOLLAAA, kdjaf, PA 03/04/08
AI think it will be good game. I don't think Communications Tech will get rattled. We have to remember that Communications Tech battled tested. The Phoenix reached the Class AAA state championship two seasons ago. It also has one of the state's top players in Scootie Randall, a Temple recruit. I think he will lead Communications Tech to victory.

ANC
QThe Academy of New church survived a scare to win the independent schools state championship, but if they played PIAA would they have a chance to win the chip?
mike, Philly, PA 03/04/08
AYes, they would have a chance to win the Class AAAA state championship. Regardless if ANC survived a scare or not, it is still one of the nation's top teams. ANC is also ranked second in the state behind Chester in every state ranking.

Norristown-Chester Rematch
QNow that Reading is out of the tourney, do you see Norristown advancing to the finals, possibly against Chester?
Jim, Plymouth Meeting, PA 03/03/08
A
I do believe
Norristown will reach the state championship. I felt that way even before Souderton upset
Reading in the first round.
I wrote in Friday’s paper that “the Eagles fly high until they run into undefeated
Reading in the quarterfinals. They triumph and topple McKeesport in the semifinals, but lose to
Chester in an all-District 1 state final.”
Now that Reading is out of the picture, all
Norristown needs to do is remain focused.

north catholic
Qhow would have north done in the piaa playoffs?
toto, Drexel Hill, PA 03/03/08
A
It's hard to say. North Catholic has a very good team. Even with the Falcons in the field, Chester and Norristown would still be the favorites to reach the Class AAAA final. North Catholic would probably go out in the quarterfinals.

Ridley Game
QOn Friday you were quoted as saying that Frankford would win. Ridley wins by 40. What did you base your prediction on and do you have any comments on this Ridley team?
Chris Marks, Springfield, PA 03/02/08
A
You are right. I did pick Frankford to win this game. I just thought Frankford was the hotter team heading into the state tournament. The Pioneers were on 13-game winning streak before losing in double overtime to Communications Tech in the Public League championship. Ridley, however, was 5-3 during its last eight games before the state playoffs. I also thought the site, Southern High, would give Frankford a huge advantage. I was wrong. Dead wrong.
Ridley’s Steven Egee and Dan Robinson showed why they make up one of the area’s top duos. I’m excited to see what the Green Raiders will do Wednesday night against Central Dauphin East.

Is there a city league hoops championship game nowadays?
QBack in 2005, at the end of February or early March, I saw the City League championship game that involved Prep Charter and Math & Science at the Liacouras. That was a bang up game, and I have been looking for the championships ever since but with no luck. The Liacouras Center didn't have it as an upcoming game back in January?
Is this even being played any more (or has that just been sucked into PIAA)? If so, where? I hope I didn't miss it this year, because the talent level was incredible.
thanks
G, Doylestown, PA 03/01/08
A
If you're talking about the Public League championship, it was played on Feb. 24. Communications Tech defeated Frankford, 77-73, in double overtime at the Liacouras Center.

STRAWBERRY MANSION STATE TITLE CHANCES
QDO U HONESTLY THINK STRAWBERRY MANSION HAS A GOOD CHANCE 2 WIN THE STATE TITLE?
DUN, PHILADELPHIA, PA 02/28/08
AI do. I have Strawberry Mansion and Imhotep Charter squaring off in the state semifinals. I'll announce my favorite to win that game in tomorrow's Inquirer.

Top 50 list
QLooks like you took your list straight out of hoopscoop. Did you account for this years season? If so you seem to be missing the top scorer of all sophomores in the philly area.
Anonymous, PA 02/25/08
A
The Nifty 50 is a projection of what players will do in the future. For instance, players that are getting a lot of high major Division I interest get ranked ahead of mid- to low-major and Division II players. The Nifty 50 doesn't account for this season's scoring averages. That's what the all-area team is for. The Nifty 50 is a projection of Division I talent.
