pub's chances

QDoes any pub football team have a chance to win a city title this year?
Anonymous, philly, PA  08/20/08
A

Anything is possible. But it is going to be very, very tough.

The Catholic League is favored to sweep the Class AAAA, Class AAA and Class AA City titles.

That's because St. Joe’s Prep is the overwhelming Class AAAA favorite. Lansdale Catholic and Archbishop Wood have a chance to be among the state’s top Class AAA teams. And I don’t see anyone of the district's Class AA squads coming close to beating West Catholic.

QWhy is there not a Nifty Fifty for female basketball players?
ruthy, philadelphia, PA  06/19/08
AWe are considering doing a Nifty Fifty for female basketball players.

Local Athlete

QWhy do we not mention Dominique Darden among the local athletes? She did not attend high school in the area (Harrisburg High), but she ran for the local United Stars track club and spent all of her summers in Norristown.
James, Penllyn, PA  06/18/08
AWe do not mention her as a local athlete, because she did not attend high school in Southeastern Pennsylvania.

QBesides Maalik Wayns who else is something worth watching in Philly basketball?
Anonymous, philly, PA  06/09/08
A

I'm assuming that you are just talking about Philadelphia and not Southeastern Pennsylvania as a whole. There are several standout players worth watching in Philly. I know that I will miss a few, but here are some players: Neumann-Goretti rising juniors Tony Chennault and Daniel Stewart, Prep Charter rising senior Jesse Morgan, Germantown Academy rising junior Cameron Ayers, Girard College rising sophomore John Johnson, Imhotep Charter rising senior Will Adams, Chestnut Hill Academy's Gary Lawrence, Roman Catholic rising junior Rakeem Brookins and Bartram rising sophomore Tyrone Garland.

what part of the game is that

QHow is that tyree chuck harris of prep charter was not on the roster for th all city classic game this year. when he should of been named MVP last year.he is in the top ten in his class out of the philly area and hes not playing in a game where the top twenty eight players make it,what. He has the acc, bigeast, pacten and even the ivy league. Just to name a few.
Big Brother, philadelphia, PA  06/03/08
A

I don't know why he's not on the roster. I don't have anything to do with the All-Star Classic or the All-Star Classic selection process.

No props for Price

QI know Easton, PA is not exactly in the Southeastern PA, Philadelphia area but there was one Athlete not named Ryann Krais who also performed well, Chanelle Price. Not to take anything away from Ryann, I mean WOW! She was looking at 4 events easy at the state meet if it was not for a slight misfortune. But, Channelle has a top 10 time in the HS US in the 1600 meters, not HS but US women's best time in the 1000 and a top 10 not HS but US women's time in the 800 meters by breaking Kim Gallagher's HS record with a personal best 2:02.90. Since we adopted Larry Holmes into the Philadelphia area in his hay day, do you think its possible we can adopt her as well?
Cam, Raleigh, NC  06/01/08
A

Chanelle Price is a great runner, perhaps the best high school girls' track athlete in some time. However, she does not live in the Philadelphia area. The all-Southeastern Pennsylvania team is made up of track and field athletes from the Philadelphia area.

In regards to adopting her for high school awards, we can't since her high school is not in our area..

Keith Pompey

Was it the coach or the athletes?

QFrom what I’ve seen, the Penn Wood girls’ track was great during the indoor and outdoor seasons. The Patriots went out there and put forth 100 percent in everything they ran. Penn Wood has accomplished a lot this season, and I am very proud the Patriots. For a woman like you, Mrs. Williams, to talk down like that to your ex-team is unacceptable. You should feel ashamed by saying what you said. You should be happy that they have gone further than you have taken them and be glad that we are breaking our personal records. We can’t just do it with a coach. The thanks should go to the athletes as well as the coaches.
anonymous, lansdowne, PA  04/29/08
A

I fully understand your concern in regards to Carla Williams' comments about Penn Wood's track team under the direction of athletic director Rap Curry and  new coach Lenny Jordan.  However, I suggest that we ALL move on to another topic. This continued dialogue brings too much negative attention to what has been a successful season for the Patriots.

Keith Pompey

Why would the EX coach of PENN WOOD react in such a childish way?

QAs an athlete that has seen the ups and downs of this track team I was shocked in what was said. What is the point in attacking Rap Curry or Lenny Jordon for getting the recognition we always needed? Why must there be drama over something so juvenile? Keith Pompey was only doing a job, a job showing what Lenny plans to do with the boys and girls track team. I don't think anyone should be getting upset or offended by the article because Lenny is only doing what Carla Williams or Mike Wilwol would of done. It is not Lenny's fault that he has state titles under is belt. It is not his fault that he wants us to do better then last year. With Lenny being here such a short time most of the girls AND boys have reached their own best personal record(PR) and received more metals than last year. Not only that but we have received more exposure then we EVER had before. Lenny has truly believed in us. HE WOULD NOT think that we would be humiliated at any meet. Lenny has never doubted us. He always gave us positive feedback from whatever we did. Lenny came out of his own pocket for us so many times not because his money flows freely but because he believed that we could achieve anything. He truly is a SAVIOR to our track team because he puts pride in us to do better and do things we never done before.
For someone that I respected I am really surprised you would do something so childish. I believed in you and you let me down. You were like our track mom and doing that just made us all ashamed. You should of been proud of us for stepping up and putting Penn Wood where it should be; which is at the top. You taught us to be phenomenal women so why would you do something that would hurt us?
Smiley, Lansdowne, PA  04/24/08

Does Penn Wood track and field athletes have a voice?

QMrs. Williams
As one of you former athletes I feel really offended about what you wrote in the Philadelphia Inquirer the other day. When you said that we would have been humiliated if you took us to nationals last or the year before, that really made it seem as though you didn't have faith in us. Now since you said that you had athletes that placed third in the 4x200 two years ago, fourth in the 4x200 last year, and a former 200-meter indoor state champion last year, then why would you say we would get humiliated? Making a statement like that make you seem really ungrateful. Now we are not saying that Lenny is some type of savior but he has truly been a great help to us while you were unable to coach. Although one of Penn Wood girls' athlete was injured and wasn't able to run at indoor nationals, Lenny still took us so that we could at least experience it. Lenny has so much faith in us that he is going to take us to outdoor nationals in June as well. No matter if we do good or bad at outdoor nationals, Lenny will still be proud of us regardless, because he knows that we have the hearts of true soldiers. Now if Lenny believes in us, then why couldn't you? If you didn't know, the Penn Wood girls' track team was going to dedicate this year to you, but for you to stoop down to a childish level like that, totally disrespect Lenny(when he did nothing to you or said anything to disrespect you), and to embarrass the Penn Wood Girls track team (in the newspaper and to switch over to STRATH HAVEN!!!!!) then that really shows how petty you can be. You were truly a role model to us and someone we really looked up too.
Don't get us wrong, we are grateful for the work that you have put in to us, but shame on you Mrs. Williams for stooping down to that level and disrespecting people that were concerned and truly cared about you.
