Former colleague Scott Palmer pushed Gary in a wheelchair at the Harry Kalas tribute last Saturday. Gary and the station steadfastly decline to speak about his condition and his course of treatment.

A friend at the Daily News says he's been on light duty lately as he recovers from illness -- making picks on playoffs, making calls -- but hasn't been traveling. He's expected back to his normal pace soon. Meanwhile, Marcus Hayes has picked up the 76ers.

Very sad and tragic. He accidentally ran over his sons' dog in the driveway. I'll write about it in the column.

It's a neat idea. (Here's a link.) Anyone can set up a low-powered AM station, which is legal. Some real estate agents set up these little transmitters outside houses for sale so they can transmit ads to prospective home buyers.

Diego's noncompete from Clear Channel runs out in about a week, but Wired can't afford him, or anyone, these days.

In February, Q102 actually had its best ratings book in some time, based on its 18-34 target demographic. The station was tops in cumulative audience -- quite impressive. Its true weak spot is mornings; its audience is about 50% lower than it was with Booker.

A peek at February's Arbitrons shows he's not doing outstanding, but he is building. I am not permitted to quote specific numbers, but his audience in persons 18-49 was up at least 20 percent from his start and his showing among men 18-49 was the station's best morning performance since October. Among men 18-34 and persons 18-34, he was up marginally.

I'll go to the most recent Arbitron numbers, from February. They're close. In rating, Eskin outreached Missanelli among men ages 25-54. They were tied among men 18-34 (which is not a target demographic). Missanelli was ahead of Eskin among men 18-49. One very telling stat, though, is cumulative audience. Eskin's audience in all demographics is higher. I won't quote specific numbers because of Arbitron's copyright, but I will say that Eskin's weekly audience is 31% to 38% larger than Missanelli's. What this seems to indicate is that (1) Missanelli's listeners are more loyal and stick with him, while Eskin's crowd dial-flips more and that (2) Missanelli is capturing the younger side of the audience. Missanelli's show is by far the high point of the day, ratings-wise, for 950ESPN.
