Phillies on internet

QI am no longer in the Philly area and used to listen to the Phillies on 1210AM which I can get on the internet but when the games are playing...they do re-broadcasts of earlier talk shows...is there some kind of MLB rules about that? Is that for all sports too?
TC , Williamsburg  07/01/08
A

What? Deny revenue to Major League Baseball, which sells subscriptions to the online content at MLB.com? All of the professional leagues stream their own broadcasts on their websites, which means that rights holders (such as radio stations) are prevented from doing it themselves. Certain contracts allow "limited time" variances, which is why WIP has carried a few Eagles games on the web.

Obtaining Caviar in Center City Philadelphia

QThe Liberty Place location of Caviar Assouline has closed. Could you please tell me where to get caviar? I called their other location/website and was told that the delivery fee would be $30.00 for federal express. Considering that it is in the same city, I think that it is a disgrace.
Louisa Elfman , Philadelphia  07/01/08
ADi Bruno's at 1730 Chestnut St. sells it.

Donuts Don

Q
Will Donuts Don McKee ever be back on the air at WIP? He seems to have been permanently replaced on Sunday mornings, and rarely gets the late nite shift?

Dave E , Clifton Heights  06/30/08
A

He was taken off Sunday mornings quite some time ago. He was last on a couple of weeks ago doing an overnight shift.

Grape Street Site

QI remember seeing a couple of months ago that Mad River was taking over the lease, do you know when that may be opening?
John , Manayunk  06/28/08
AJust spoke with one of Mad River's owners, and he said they hope to open the Mad River in Manayunk in late fall or early winter. The partners are planning a more upscale operation, with a still-undecided name, at 1528-30 Sansom St., to open this fall.

Braddocks & Ott's

QMike,
2 questions for you – 1) I had heard from someone that the people behind the recent purchase of Braddock’s Tavern were also the owners of Ott's Bars (Medford, Delran, Wash Twp, Edgewater Park and Berlin). Are the 3 people you mentioned in today's column also the owners of Ott’s? 2) Are all 5 Ott’s owned by the same family?
Rich , Mount Laurel  06/26/08
ATom Doyle and Bob Wagner of Braddock's also own the Ott's locations in Washington Township, Berlin and Medford; they have another partner in the Delran location. Edgewater Park was sold in January and is under separate ownership.

Will NBC 10 become a FOX affiliate?

QMichael,
I hear a rumor NBC is looking only to keep stations in NY, LA and
Chicago. If they sell NBC 10 do you
see FOX trying to buy it so they will have aVHF outlet?
ed , Marlton  06/26/08
A

It's way too early to speculate on which stations NBC might break off. I think that if Fox were to bid on any NBC stations, it wouldn't be to have a  "VHF outlet." FiOS and cable are making the old over-the-air concept of "VHF" moot.

Mikey Miss

QHow is Mikey Miss doing on 950? I realize its early (for ratings), but his show is quite good, and a welcome addition to Eskin...any updates?
Jack , Horsham  06/24/08
AActually, two months of ratings are in, and Missanelli's show has been doing quite well -- relatively. Overall, 950 is fairing quite poorly, but Missanelli in May pulled a 1.5 share among men 25-54. The best that former afternooner Jody McDonald did was a 1.1 though he'd been closer to 0.8 in his final months in the afternoon. (McDonald is now on from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. but I don't have numbers for that exact time slot.) As for Eskin on 610, he had a fairly typical April (5.5 share) but a lousy May (a 4.4 share -- his worst in quite some time, though the entire 610 was off dramatically across the board). As of May, Eskin's weekly audience among men 25-54 was nearly triple Missanelli's. It's too early to suggest that Missanelli is nibbling at Eskin's audience but this bears watching.

Will Free Beer and Hotwings ever come to Philly?

QFBHW's are on the Hawk in Jersey, but Philly listeners can't always get good reception. Is there any talk about them getting syndicated here?
David , Philadelphia  06/24/08
AHaven't heard a word about a Philly station willing to pick it up; based on its list of affiliates, it's a small- and medium-market show. FBAHW used to air on Trenton's 97.5 The Hawk before the station was sold, and briefly aired last year on WMGK (102.9) late at night on tape-delay.
