Delco nurse charged with insurance fraud

A nurse with Crozer-Keystone Health System allegedly worked an "illegal scam" that enabled her to collect more than $50,000 from her employer through an apparently fake injury claim, according to the Delaware County District Attorney's Office.

Jamie Scott, 36, of Ridley Township, has been charged with false insurance claim, theft by deception and related offenses after surveillance footage from her local YMCA allegedly disproved that a shoulder injury made her unfit to return to work, the D.A.'s office said in a statement yesterday.

Scott first reported in August that she had hurt her shoulder "while lifting a heavy patient" at Taylor Hospital. She said the pain from the injury was so severe that she had to be placed on restricted duty until Feb. 7, the statement said.

She allegedly reinjured her shoulder the following week, and complained that the pain prevented her from driving and lifting heavy objects.

In April, she told her employers that she was able to perform "light duty at work," according to the statement.

Later that month, however, Scott was filmed on the Ridley Township YMCA's surveillance cameras teaching a TRX resistance-band class, as well as an "intense cycling class."

During those activities, she exhibited full range of motion, despite her claims to the contrary, according to the D.A.'s office. A subsequent examination of her YMCA time card showed that Scott visited the facility 84 times since her initial injury in August.

Scott was arrested Thursday and remained in custody last night in lieu of bail. She faces a preliminary hearing June 29, according to the statement.
