The Big Play
THE BIG PLAY X-RAY
THE PLAY: It's hard to believe Alex Rodriguez had just one Series hit before he came to bat in the ninth inning last night, but he did. He promptly made his second safety a big one.
THE SETUP: After the Phillies had tied the game on a Pedro Feliz solo home run in the eighth, the Yankees mounted a two-out rally off Brad Lidge in the top of the ninth. Johnny Damon singled to left, stole second and third on the same play (don't ask) and Mark Teixeira was hit by a pitch.
THE AT-BAT: A-Rod took a fastball for a strike and then drilled another fastball to the leftfield wall, Damon scoring easily, Teixeira stopping at third and Rodriguez hustling into second. Jorge Posada singled home those two runs.
THE STATS: Rodriguez, who hit .429 in the ALDS and .455 in the NLCS, was 1-for-13 in the Series when he came to the plate in the ninth . . . A-Rod had a two-run, ninth-inning homer off Lidge on May 23 to erase a 4-2 deficit.
THE QUOTE: "I was just trying to get a good pitch to hit and not try to do to much with it," Rodriguez told Fox following the game.
