Shane Victorino
Height, weight: 5-9, 160
Age: 28. Birthdate: Nov. 30, 1980
Hometown: Wailuku, Hawaii
Years in the majors: 6
How acquired: Drafted by the Phillies from the Los Angeles Dodgers in the 2004 Rule 5 draft.
Season: Victorino continued his maturation into one of the top all-around players in the game today as he hit .292 with 102 runs scored. He had 25 steals to go with 13 triples and his OBP reached a career-high .358, although both the Phillies and Victorino would love more progress in this area.
Career: The native of Hawaii has always had the natural tools to be a great player but wasn't grounded in the basics of the game. His late start allowed him to be dangled not once but twice by the Los Angeles Dodgers on the Rule 5 market. The Phillies - in particular first-base coach Davey Lopes - eventually brought those skills out of Victorino and now he's an All-Star with the bulk of his career ahead of him.
UFC 8: Victorino is a big fan of mixed martial arts and has attended several events. His passion for MMA is similar to that of Eagles and Phillies fans for their teams.
High energy: Victorino is known for his high intensity and emotions. Sometimes those emotions have been a distraction but more often then not, they have ignited the Phillies. The most noted of these occasions came against the Dodgers' Hideki Kuroda in Game 3 of the 2008 NLCS. The Phillies lost that game but appeared more focused and driven after Victorino's objection to a pitch over his head emptied both dugouts.
