Eagles Notebook: Eagles' Peters has a Giant friend in Andrews

Jason Peters said he talks frequently with former Eagles (and Arkansas) teammate Shawn Andrews, but Peters didn't know that Andrews had missed practice yesterday with a sore back.

Jason Peters said he talks frequently with former Eagles (and Arkansas) teammate Shawn Andrews, but Peters didn't know that Andrews had missed practice yesterday with a sore back.

"I didn't hear that, I'm going to have to give him a call," said Peters, the Eagles' left tackle. "He's been doing good, playing left tackle - they moved [David] Diehl inside."

Peters said Andrews asked him for advice when he was moved to left tackle on an injury-depleted line. Andrews was a two-time Pro Bowl right guard for the Eagles who was moved to right tackle in 2009 but never played that year after undergoing his second back surgery in as many seasons. Andrews has started the last two games for the Giants at left tackle.

"He asks me something, here and there. I give him a little bit of information," Peters said.

If Andrews plays Sunday against his former team, he will face a relentless opponent in former teammate Trent Cole. Peters also is looking at a stiff challenge from Giants defensive end Justin Tuck and a front four that shifts around a lot.

"All four guys, great pass rushers, play the run good," Peters said. "They're probably the best d-line we'll play all year."

Peters' two games since the bye might have been his best all season. That has something to do with the meniscus surgery he underwent Oct. 14.

"Usually after a game, [the left knee] would be sore all during the week," he said. "Now it feels way better."

Mistakegate?

Donovan McNabb chuckled, but not in an enjoying himself kind of way, when asked during his news conference yesterday if he regretted saying the Eagles made a mistake in trading him.

That was McNabb's pronouncement when presented the game ball after the 'Skins defeated the Eagles 17-12 at the Linc on Oct. 3. Some Eagles mentioned his words after the Monday rematch.

"If that's what they need to motivate them to play a game, then they don't need to play," McNabb said. "The whole thing of it is, we played a team that came out clicking on all cylinders, they played well, and you take your hat off to them. For us, we just need to move on and get ready for this tough Tennessee team."

Patterson's patter

Corner Dimitri Patterson intercepted Donovan McNabb twice Monday night, in what was just Patterson's second NFL start, but Patterson said that didn't mean the game film was great fun to watch.

Patterson, burned for a 76-yard reception to Anthony Armstrong, said: "There were three or four plays I wish I could have back. Definitely the one to Armstrong when I misjudged the ball. I didn't expect it to sail on me like that. It sailed on me. That was a frustrating play . . . There were a couple of coverage plays where I didn't get the ball thrown at me, but my technique wasn't to where I thought it would be. There are things I can address, and I'm going to address 'em right now in practice."

Eagles coach Andy Reid spoke yesterday of a need to ease former starter Ellis Hobbs back in as a returner, for sure. Reid said Patterson will retain the starting corner spot.

Patterson was asked if he assumes the job is now his for good.

"It's not a league of assumptions," Patterson said. "All I can do is basically continue to perform. I can't say what I expect, what I assume. What I expect out of myself is to come out and show why he's given me this opportunity. That's what I expect. I can't tell you anything down the road." *
