I KNOW HOW Kevin Kolb must have felt last week. A national news story; going from starter to backup. I have been there before. And at the time, although it seemed difficult, it made me challenge myself even more diligently to achieve success.

The great part of life is there is always potential for a second chance, if you work deliberately enough for the opportunity. This Sunday seems made for second chances. Michael Vick coming back. Donovan McNabb at Lincoln Financial Field, this time for the other team. And I know Kolb will work even harder at getting back on the field.

Some still define me by that Giants game back in 2007 (when New York got 12 sacks), just as they define Vick by his legal troubles. But who knows, maybe we wouldn't have made it this far without the setbacks. As the old saying goes, you need friction to create a diamond. Hardships create perseverance. And perseverance creates self-discipline and character. Without the tribulations, I would have been a different man.

What I admire most about Kolb is his work ethic and his desire to get out there on the field and perform. This will push him harder. One thing I heard Kolb say is that, aside from making completions and throwing touchdowns, he really enjoys the camaraderie and being out there with the guys on the field. And we can feel that energy about him.

With McNabb coming back this week, we face familiarity in unfamiliar terms. Sure, it makes for a great headline. But for us players, it's really just another game. We prepare for him just as we do every other week. Yes, I have heard players give insight in meeting rooms when facing their former teams. But players and plays change so frequently, and even if they recognize what's coming, they still have to stop it.

Questions of the week

Thanks again for the great questions!

* Mike Caviglia from Turlock, Calif., asked: What play do you like hearing called in the huddle? Run, Pass, Screen or Wildcat?

Mike, I love the play called "Victory." It is when the quarterback takes a knee and we have won the game.

* Bill Baxavaneos asked: What is the hardest part of pass blocking, and does it matter which QB is playing?

Keeping consistent with your technique is the hardest part of pass blocking. Different DEs and schemes will try to get you out of your technique, but you need to stay consistent and stick with it. For example, a DE or OLB will line up really wide, making tackles drift out to them, which creates more space for them to do "a game." "A game" is when the DE and DT or the DE and OLB try to switch places when the ball is snapped. And it is up to the guard and tackle to switch those two men off. It doesn't matter what quarterback is playing. We still are lined up in the same spot. And the quarterbacks are all coached in the same way.
