Phillies' Amaro in running for MLB commissioner's job?

The New York Post reported that general manager Ruben Amaro Jr. is among candidates being considered to succeed Bud Selig.

RUBEN AMARO JR., from beleaguered general manager of the Phillies to commissioner of baseball?

Amaro laughed a little at the thought.

But a story on the New York Post's pagesix.com on Wednesday night listed Amaro as a candidate for the job of Major League Baseball commissioner, a job title being vacated in January when Bud Selig is expected to retire.

The Post's story centered on Bob Iger, Disney's chairman and CEO, listing him as a favorite of MLB's succession committee. Phils president David Montgomery is on that seven-man committee.

Among other candidates the Post listed are Joe Torre, Bob Costas, George Will, Dick Ebersol, MLB executive Rob Manfred, Dodgers owner Stan Kasten and Amaro.

"I was surprised and startled as anyone else," Amaro said yesterday. "I don't know where it came from, but I'm flattered."

Amaro went on to say he already has "a dream job" as the general manager of the Phillies.
