Quinn gets second chance

Brady Quinn is getting his second chance at starting.

Quinn, benched just 10 quarters into the season for Derek Anderson, will start Monday night's game against the Baltimore Ravens. He was pulled at halftime of the Browns' 34-3 loss to Baltimore on Sept. 27, and will make his return against one of the NFL's toughest defenses.

"I'm excited to play," said Quinn, who is 1-5 in six career starts. "I'm excited to be a part of Monday night. Every team in the NFL is tough, them especially. We've got our hands full right now."

Browns coach Eric Mangini has decided to go back to Quinn after Anderson went 1-4 as a starter and posted the NFL's lowest quarterback rating (36.2). Mangini said he would like to stick with Quinn for the remainder of the season.

Quinn went 6-for-8 for 34 yards with one interception before being pulled in Week 3 for Anderson, who completed only 43 percent of his passes, threw two touchdowns and nine interceptions in the past five games.

Mangini has been impressed with Quinn's work ethic since being demoted.

"He's had good weeks of practice," Mangini said. "He's worked hard since the first transition was made. I look forward to him taking advantage of this opportunity and helping us improve."

Noteworthy

* New York Giants cornerback Aaron Ross practiced for the first time since pulling his left hamstring in training camp in August. He plans to play against Atlant on Nov. 22.

* Running back LaDainian Tomlinson and tight end Antonio Gates were among six San Diego players who missed practice as the Chargers prepared for the Eagles Sunday. Tomlinson has a bruised hip and Gates has a sore foot.

* Trent Edwards is back as Buffalo's starting quarterback but might be missing his top threat after Terrell Owens missed practice because of a strained hip.

Coach Dick Jauron, who announced Edwards would start after missing two games with a concussion, said Owens' hip began bothering him during the team's day off on Tuesday and was unsure whether Owens would be able to practice as the Bills prepare to play at Tennessee Sunday.

* Minnesota's Brett Favre is back from his bye week, saying he believes his pulled groin will be fine. He was hurt during practice 2 weeks ago and aggravated the injury in pregame warmups at Green Bay on Nov. 1. The Vikings didn't play last week, giving the 40-year-old quarterback extra time to heal.

* The punch Tommie Harris threw Sunday during the Chicago Bears' loss to the Arizona Cardinals will not prevent the defensive tackle from playing tonight.

The NFL might fine Harris, but there will be no suspension for punching Cardinals guard Deuce Lutui in the helmet, according to a league source. The NFL generally does not confirm fine-related information before Friday.

Harris was ejected after the incident. Because the ejection occurred only four plays into the game, Harris effectively missed one game. The incident's timing could have played into the league's decision against a suspension.

* Washington coach Jim Zorn said Redskins running back Clinton Portis, who suffered a concussion in last week's loss to Atlanta, will probably miss Sunday's game against Denver.

* Matt Hasselbeck isn't fully practicing with the Seahawks because of a sore shoulder and healing ribs, though he will start Sunday's key divisional game at Arizona.

* Kansas City right guard Mike Goff was placed on injured reserve with a shoulder injury, which means the Chiefs (1-7) will be without their starting right guard and recently released running back Larry Johnson against Oakland on Sunday.

* Arizona wide receiver Anquan Boldin says he's "moved on" after Sunday's critical comments directed at coach Ken Whisenhunt and his staff.

Boldin says he has no regrets about what he said but he's "done with it" and it's no longer an issue.

Boldin was held out of Sunday's 41-21 victory at Chicago and complained afterward that "no one was man enough" to tell him he was inactive.

Whisenhunt says he told Boldin he would not be playing shortly after the inactive list was submitted.
