Fans balk at prices

FANS ARE BALKING about the price of attending baseball games. Tickets, concessions, parking - it all adds up.

In an Associated Press-Knowledge Networks poll released yesterday, results showed that 63 percent thought the price of attending games is too high. That's up from 45 percent before Opening Day. The average ticket price is $26.64; overall, attendance is down more than 6 percent.

"It's definitely a big concern for me," Minnesota outfielder Denard Span told the AP. "Without the fans, this game, I don't think it really exists."

The Twins recently joined a growing list of teams that have tried to economically stimulate fans to attend games by offering all-you-can-eat promotions.

For $34, just $8 higher than usual, fans can stuff themselves with hot dogs, nachos, popcorn, peanuts, pretzels, soda and water.

Sadly, beer remained as overpriced as usual.

Ultimate Shaq attack?

From ultimate basketball player to ultimate fighter? Say it ain't so, Shaq.

Yesterday, Shaquille O'Neal - using the Twitter name @The_Real_Shaq - sent the following message to UFC president Dana White (@danawhiteufc): "i wanna be on da card for ufc 101 sign me up, lol."

To which the Wachovia Center (@Wachovia_Center), which is hosting an upcoming UFC101 event, replied "Shaq, you want in UFC101 @Wachovia_Center? let's make this happen - Aug 8 - put it on the Shaq-calendar!"

Stay tuned.

No word on how Clint Eastwood voted

The "Vote Bran-Torino" campaign worked.

On Wednesday, the Tigers and Phillies collaborated on a last-minute push to get people to vote for third baseman Brandon Inge and outfielder Shane Victorino for the final American and National League All-Star roster spots.

Both, as you know by now, were selected. *
