Links to the summit
The president is in Russia today to chat about scaling down nuclear arsenals and patching up a decaying relationship between the nations. So, naturally, the inquiring minds at the Russian state-run Rossiya TV and ITAR-TASS news agency wanted to know . . .
Mr. President, how's your golf swing?
Presses are stopping around the globe, now that the president has revealed to Russian reporters that he doesn't like his golf swing and the ball never goes where he wants. He revealed in the interview that he's been working on his golf game lately but, gosh darn it, he hasn't had much success.
The president, who has been playing golf most weekends with aides, told Russian reporters he thinks he should be good at golf. Yet his shots never seem to go straight.
Good thing they cleared all that up. You just know that before this summit is over, those Russian toughs are going to hit the president with this one: Who's better, Sergei Fedorov or Alexander Ovechkin?
Time flies
Speaking of hockey, our old Flyer friend Eric Lindros was named the Hart Trophy winner exactly 14 years ago today. The Hart Trophy, as in the NHL's most valuable player. Yeah, he was that good once.
Eyeing the stars
All-Star rosters came out yesterday and, of course, talk of who got snubbed was bound to follow. Some of the tougher snubs (all pitchers) included: Milwaukee's Yovani Gallardo (8-5, 2.75), Texas' Kevin Millwood (8-5, 2.80) and the Angels' Jered Weaver (8-3, 3.10). All were deserving. But at least fans were smart enough to leave off the Synthetic Duo - Manny Ramirez and Alex Rodriguez. *
