Romero return will force Phillies to make move

At some point over the next 4 or 5 days, the Phillies will hold a meeting of the minds during which the addition of lefthanded reliever J.C. Romero to the roster will be discussed.

When Romero is added to the active roster on June 3, the club will have to part with one of its current players - likely either reserve outfielder John Mayberry Jr. or a reliever. In a perfect world, the Phillies would prefer to carry five bench players, but GM Ruben Amaro said the team has not ruled out keeping 13 pitchers.

"It would be a consideration, yeah," Amaro said. "Ultimately, we'll probably make the decision when he gets back, but it's a possibility."

Romero, who can return from his 50-game suspension June 3 in San Diego, pitched two perfect innings with two strikeouts in a relief appearance with Class A Lakewood yesterday.
