Report: Favre made calls to Childress
The Milwaukee Journal Sentenel, citing a source, reported the story yesterday.
Another newspaper, the Star Tribune in Minneapolis, reported yesterday that NFL security personnel visited the Vikings' training camp and interviewed team officials regarding a tampering charge the Packers had filed. Green Bay filed the charge last week, alleging "inappropriate dialogue" between the Vikings and Favre, who has said he wants to unretire and wants out of Green Bay.
Favre has asked to be released from his contract, a request the team said it has no plans to grant.
NFL commissioner Roger Goodell has said that if Favre asks, he will reinstate him as an active player. Favre's contractual rights belong to the Packers until his current deal expires after the 2010 season.
ESPN reported that sources said Goodell has urged Packers general manager Ted Thompson to shop Favre around the league to determine if there is a trade partner.
There is speculation Tampa Bay would be interested in acquiring Favre. The St. Petersburg Times reported Bucs quarterback Chris Simms, who wants out of Tampa Bay, said he was approached by team GM Bruce Allen about how Favre would fare in the team's offense with limited preparation.
