Victorino's shot gives a fan a grand prize
A two-run shot by Victorino in the third inning earned Gardner $1,000 and the 12th winner in the Daily News Home Run Payoff contest this season.
Gardner could not be reached for comment yesterday, but his phone was answered by a pleasant woman who told us that he was out playing a few rounds of golf, and thanks to a few buddies who heard his name on the radio Saturday, Gardner was well aware of his newfound wealth.
Five others were winners in the Daily News Home Run Payoff contest over the weekend.
Each winning a Phillies Gift Pack in the fourth inning of the Phillies-Diamondbacks game yesterday were:
Dot Marquis, Philadelphia
Mary Donohue, Philadelphia
Susan Barrall, Medford, N.J.
Each winning a gift pack in the third inning of Saturday's game were:
Mike Reed, Philadelphia
Tom Best, Lewisburg, Pa.
The Daily News pays $1,000 for a home run hit in the Payoff inning and $10,000 for a grand slam. Contestants whose batters fail to hit a home run receive a gift pack, which includes a variety of Phillies-related items.
This season, the Daily News has paid out $12,000. You can hear the Home Run Payoff inning during each Phillies broadcast on WPHT (1210-AM).
