Temple basketball signs player from Argentina
As a senior in 1999-2000, Atlantic 10 Player of the Year Pepe Sanchez was a third-team All-American for a squad that went into the NCAA Tournament as a No. 2 seed.
Now another Owls' coach has taken a similar route.
Owlscoop.com reported that Fran Dunphy has signed 6-4 Juan Manuel Fernandez to a national letter of intent.
The son of a former professional player in Argentina, Fernandez will be playing for that country's team in next week's 2008 FIBA Americas Under-18 Championship in Formosa, Argentina.
Because high school students in Argentina typically graduate later in the year, it is unclear when Fernandez will arrive on North Broad Street, but there is a chance he could be available to start the season.
The Owls had already landed Public League Player of the Year 6-6 Scootie Randall, a swingman from Communications Tech, and 6-3 T.J. DiLeo, a guard out of Cinnaminson (N.J.) High. *
