Super boring show

IN OUR LIFETIME, WE have watched the

Super Bowl grow from a Sunday afternoon football game into a national holiday, complete with salsa and wings.

Of course, the NFL wants more. Everyone wants more; this is America, after all.

According to a report in SportsBusiness Journal, the NFL is packaging a live, 60- to 90-minute TV awards show "to kick off Super Bowl weekend." The show will feature music acts and give out the league's top individual awards.

We're not sure how the two are linked. We can't imagine folks saying, "Hot damn, it's Friday. This is NFL awards-show night. Turn off the cell phone."

We don't care, much, if the NFL wants to get into the entertainment business. Hey, it's

their billion-dollar industry.

We do worry about the continued stretching of the brand.

We love watching the games. When it comes to football, we can't watch anything else. Pregame shows? Postgame shows? The draft? Booooring.

Now, an awards show? Who would watch? And why?

When it comes to pregame shows or postgame shows, unless Charles Barkley is on it, we're not interested.

What? Leodis McKelvin dropped to 11?

Excitement was building nonstop around

Delaware Valley households on Saturday, and why not?

Would Ryan Clady be taken in the first round before Chris Williams? Where would Brian

Brohm go? What about Dustin Keller?

We are happy to report the NFL draft barely made its way onto our TV screen. Interestingly, we did click in 4 hours and 45 minutes into the draft and the Eagles were still 2 minutes away from picking anybody.

Yes, the Birds made trades. Booooring. If you're going to watch the draft, your 8-8, last-place team ought to take somebody, anybody.

We're just relieved that we had a roomful of paint to watch dry on Saturday afternoon. *
