Herb Good Basketball Club names Temple's Dunphy coach of year

Temple's Fran Dunphy has been selected the Eastern College Coach of the Year by the Herb Good Basketball Club.

Dunphy, who led his team to the Atlantic 10 Tournament championship and an NCAA berth, will receive the Harry Litwack Award at the club's 63rd annual banquet Monday.

Guard Andre Miller was named the winner of the Eddie Gottlieb Award to the Outstanding 76er.

The winners of other awards announced yesterday:

* Dave Zinkoff Award (Big 5 Rookie of the Year): Tyler Bernardini, Penn.

* George Paull Award (Big 5's Most Improved Player): Chris Clark, Temple.

* Cy Kaselman Award (Big 5's Most Accurate Foul Shooter): Pat Calathes, Saint Joseph's, 82.6 percent.

* Harry Merrill Sportsmanship Award: Rob Ferguson, Saint Joseph's.

* Palumbo Award (Big 5's top scorer): Dionte Christmas, Temple, 19.7 average, 670 points.

* The club will honor Drexel's Frank Elegar for his outstanding career and high school standouts Gary Lawrence (Chestnut High Academy), Maalik Wayns (Roman Catholic) and Andrew "Scootie" Randall (Communications Tech). *
