Drexel - Drexel's Hester named 2008 V Foundation Comeback player of the year
Hester, who returned to action after missing all of 2006-07 due to Hodgkin's lymphoma, was selected out of 14 finalists for the eighth annual award. The presentation of the award, named in honor of former North Carolina State men's basketball coach Jim Valvano, will be Wednesday, April 23 on the Drexel campus.
The Dragons were 10-21 in the season Hester missed, but rebounded this year to go 18-12 and a program-best 13-5 in the Colonial Athletic Association. Hester was fourth on the team averaging 7.1 points and led the Dragons in assists (3.2 per game) and three-point shooting (45.6 percent).
"This is a great honor. I feel very special and humbled to be associated with an amazing person like coach Valvano and the great things that the V Foundation has done to further cancer research," said Hester, a junior forward. "I'm personally very thankful for the generosity of groups like the V Foundation because the research and technological development that they have funded helped me get back on the basketball court this season and is helping millions of people out there who are battling cancer right now." *
