VIDEO: SEPTA strike

Easy, riders

A TRANSIT STRIKE anywhere can be devastating. But in a city known for its kind, compassionate, and helpful people . . .

Oh, wait. Wrong city. We're the ones who boo Santa.

Actually, we do believe our town is full of great and helpful people. So we urge you three to help each other during the SEPTA strike. In addition to the suggestions below, City Howl, a new Web site that allows citizens to review city services, has a "strike" page for people to exchange ideas (and maybe even rides.) Check it out on www.thecityhowl.com.

Meanwhile, use the bike lanes. Our 200 miles of bike lanes include two crosstown lanes eastbound on Pine Street and westbound on Spruce Street.

Share your ride. Find out if your co-workers need a lift and make the offer.

Give your employees a break if they come in late. Also, encourage your employees to work together to find ways to get to the office.

Techies, assemble! Already, folks at iSEPTA developed iPhone applications to search schedules. Time to take open-source software to the next level for an app. that helps people find a ride to work. Geeks, get on it!

Oh please This town is full of more low rent, rude, ignorant arrogant people than anywhere else I've ever lived. The transit strike is the latest show for that - if people here had ever lived anywhere else they would realize what a S---hole this city is and run, not walk. I encourage people not to visit here, not to spend any money here, to tell everyone they know and post everywhere they can that the city sucks, and as soon as I can get a job in the burbs (where I live), when I can stop paying the highest non-resident wage tax and highest fares for the worst transit, I'll be outta here.

wow, thanks for the helpful, super obvious solutions. the person who wrote this must have a nice car. not everyone can bike to work. not everyone even owns a bike. would you suggest that someone who lives in the NE bike to 15th and market? could you also entertain the possibility that coworkers might not live anywhere near us - or that they too take septa? no wonder the writer of this piece didn't indentify themselves. keep looking down from your ivory tower.

intelliwoman, clearly you only visited north philly. The people that live in this town had NOTHING to do with the strike. I thought you were supposed to be "intelli"gent? Sounds more like bitter to me. Get out of our city.

intelliwoman's comments almost always betray her insecurity and snobbery. she looks down on the city with an intensity that suggests she once was one of us. you do realize that the wealthy people on the main line would look at you as the cockroach, right? if you came to their neighborhoods with your non-luxury car, they'd talk amongst selves of the declining quality of the area. ---- re: your working in the city... i'm going to guess you walk around with a snotty, fearful look on your face, which is why people aren't responding well to your arrogance.

Intelliwoman is all class. It takes an intelligent person to come up with that tired old rant and isolate herself in the suburbs. You have the gall to call others arrogant and then post something like this? And good luck getting a job in the burbs. Why do you think everyone works down here dummy? Time to change your name.

intelliwoman maybe you should cut your ties with the city now RUN don't WALK! don't take a job from a philadelphian you ingrate. I haven't lived in Philly for 9 years but I STILL consider it my home. NEVER FORGET WHERE YOU CAME FROM. As for rude and arrogant people in the city I would look in the mirror you suburbian snob!

I think the tech idea is great, but it was only by a hair that my spouse's coworker was not on the burning train, and now I'm worried how many more "fires" and "electrical failures" we're going to have that the TWU members blame on "subletting?" TWU is using terror tactics that technology can't override. How can coworkers connect to get a ride to regional rail if they are trapped on a burning train? How do they use technology to deal with walking past entrances to working transit when those entrances are blocked by union goons harassing riders? Come on. This is what KYW has already reported all day, and where is the Ink and DN? Still high up in the ivory tower of theoretically agreeing with the union?
